NCS 805- Emergency Medicine/ Procedures
This course reviews training in emergency medical procedures for Adult/Infant CPR, First Aid, wound care, shock, trauma, poisoning, burns, and situations presenting to the physician in the clinical set ting.
NCS 806- Emergency Medicine/Lab
In this course, medical students practice learned techniques on laboratory models.
NCS 810- Public Health
This course covers the basic principles of epidemiology and biostatistics. Topics include statistical probability, frequency distribution, variability, population sampling techniques, statistical inferences as they relate to disease occurrence, recurrence, and patterns and trends in the population. Emphasis is given to interpreting concepts such as relative risk, risk cofactors, attributable risk, and integrative public health promotion and disease prevention.
NCS 815- Immunology
This course covers the principles of immunology and host defense mechanisms, and correlates them in relation to defense against common viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic agents of disease. Immunologic abnormalities, immune deficiency disorders, immunoprophylaxis and their integrative therapeutic approaches are also covered.
NCS 820- Pharmacology
This course deals with the general principles of pharmacology , the dynamics of absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs, mechanism of drug actions, drug testing in humans, and prescription writing.
NCS 821- Clinical Pharmacology
This course continues pharmacology studies, covering clinical topics such as chemotherapy of microbial, parasitic and neoplastic diseases, drugs acting on blood and blood- forming organs, hormones and hormone antagonists, vitamins, botanical and homeopathic preparations, the principles of toxicology, including environmental, internal, and pharmaceutical factors, drugs causing birth defect, and OTC medications and preparations, including digestants, gastric antacids, laxatives, and antihistamines.
NCS 825- Internal Medicine I
This course covers the physiology and pathology of disease processes in Cardiology, Endocrinology,
Metabolism. Gastroenterology. Hematology and Oncology. and Infectious Disease.
NCS 826- Internal Medicine II
This course covers Eye. Ear. Nose and Throat. Respiratory , Nephrology. Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine, Rheumatology and the Genitourinary
system.
NCS 830- Infectious Diseases
This course covers the etiology, pathogenesis, and pathophysiology of disease. The symptoms and signs sequelae of untreated disease, and integrative clinical lab procedures used to stage and assess the severity of illness are also discussed.
NCS 835- Family Medicine
This course covers the diagnosis, integrative treatment. and management of the disorders presenting t( the physician in general practice. with emphasis on diagnostic procedures, differential diagnosis, specialty examinations and clinical reasoning skills.
NCS 840- Minor Surgery
This course covers the conditions that are treated in office. including the principles of naturopathic surgical technique. local anesthesia. suturing, care of operative wounds. and integrative management of post operative conditions.
NCS 841- Minor Surgery/Lab
Medical students practice surgical techniques on a variety of laboratory models.
NCS 845- Obstetrics/Gynecology
This course is a study of the etiology. diagnosis and differential diagnosis. and therapeutic aspects of the diseases of the female genitourinary and reproductiv4 system. The medical student receives a correlation among the physical, laboratory .gynecologic and obstetric examinations as related to the potential disorders of this particular system.
NCS 850- Pediatrics/Geriatrics I
This course offers correlated approaches to the physician's management of pediatric and geriatric health issues. Part I of the course deals with pediatric health, focusing on well child care and the diagnosis integrative treatment. and management of childhood disease.
NCS 851- Pediatrics/Geriatrics II
This course covers geriatric health issues and integrative management. including the
physiological, psychological, and pathological problems, as well as common and unusual conditions of the geriatric population.
NCS 855- Clinical Neurology
This course presents a study of the clinical aspects of neurological diseases and disorders. the procedures of the neurological examination, the correlation of neurological findings with other differential diagnosis data. and the specific integrative protocols for the management of patients with a variety of neurological disorders.
NCS 860- Psychiatry I
This course covers psychopathology. including behavioral analysis of typical psychiatric syndromes. Emphasis is on etiology. diagnosis. integrative treatment and management. and the use of the DSM IV as a major diagnostic tool. The course also covers major issues and problems presenting to the physician including eating, sexual, and sleep disorders, as well as those involving death, dying, grief, homicide, suicide, and forensic psychiatry. Laboratory testing and imaging are also discussed.
NCS 861- Psychiatry II
This course discusses specific integrative clinical treatment and management
therapies, as well as conventional therapies including individual. couple,
family, group, pharmacologic, and electroconvulsive.
NCS 865- Laboratory Diagnosis I
This didactic and problem-based course reviews the methods used in diagnosis and management of common conditions. The medical student will develop skills in interpretation. evaluation. and correlation of normal to abnormal physical and laboratory findings. The student uses simulated patients and practical laboratory exercises to hone their diagnostic skills.
NCS 866- Laboratory Diagnosis II
This course provides the student with the practical application of instruments. procedures and analysis that are utilized in the physical and laboratory examination of patients. Students become competent in examination and laboratory procedures used in the everyday integrative medical practice.
NCS 870- Diagnostic Imaging I
In this course. the student reviews the various radio- graphic and imaging examinations of the chest, skull. central nervous system. abdomen and extremities including imaging anatomy and the depiction of pathological conditions in each area. Clinical correlation and follow-up diagnostic procedures are emphasized.
NCS 871- Diagnostic Imaging II
In this course. arthritic disorders and associated connective tissue disorders are reviewed. including distinctive imaging characteristics and associated clinical presentation.
NCS 875- Physical Medicine I
This course reviews the integrative modalities of osseous and neuromuscular manipulation, palpation, evaluation of motion, strain/counters/rain, orthopedic and soft tissue assessment, hydrotherapy, and treatment program planning. Advanced disability assessment, report writing, and evaluation with CT and MRI are also covered.
NCS 880- Rehabilitation I
This course covers the evaluation of physical disabilities, and the integrative treatment and management protocols used in returning the patient to an in- dependent lifestyle. Therapeutic exercise, biomechanics, and the social and psychological implications of rehabilitation are also discussed.
NCS 885- Clinical Orthopedics I
This course covers areas such as diagnosis of spinal injury, joint replacement, sports medicine, and post- operative management and integrative treatment protocols of structural injuries.
NCS 890- Clinical Nutrition
This course reviews the biochemical principles of clinical nutrition, the principles and practices of integrative nutritional management and support for selected medical conditions, drug-nutrient interactions, and clinical case studies.
NCS 895- Dietary Therapy
In this course, the student learns the biochemical principles of the use of foods, supplements, and vitamins in the integrative treatment and management of a variety of disorders.
NCS 900- Dermatology
This course covers common diseases and defects of the skin and related structures, the diagnosis, treatment and management of these disorders in the integrative setting. The use of the latest technologies in restoration of normal skin surface and tone is also covered.
NCS 905- Botanical Medicine
This course covers the range of phyto-nutrients, phytopharmaceuticals and botanical preparations, their history and evolution in medicinal use. The most common preparations used in the integrative physician's office are also discussed.
NCS 910- Jurisprudence /Business Office Practice
In this course, the laws and rules regulating the practice of naturopathic medicine in the U.S. are reviewed. Also covered are various techniques of marketing, choosing a location, hiring staff, health plan and insurance documentation, bedside manner, and physician-community relations to enhance marketability.
