Accreditation

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation (which is not a mandatory requirement for any post-secondary training program) means that a program has made application to and has been approved by, an agency, approved by the U.S. Department of Education, for the purpose of setting regulations, procedures, and policies that a program must meet or exceed in order for the students enrolled in that particular program to be able to obtain Title IV funding ( federal student loans). These loan programs vary in procedure and scope. A post-secondary training program does not have to be accredited in order to operate, as laws vary from state to state on the operation of post secondary training pro- grams within that particular state.

Central States College, chartered in 1939 by the state of Ohio to operate as a legal, degree-granting institution, an( authorized by charter to grant the degrees of Doctor of Naturopathy (N. D.), and Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (N.M.D.). graduate and undergraduate degrees, and certificates of proficiency to technicians, is a non-profit, federally tax-exempt (501 (c) 3 ) teaching and research institution. The College was founded in 1939 and at that time accreditation was not necessary in order for the College to operate in Ohio.

To accommodate today's interest in Naturopathic and Integrative medicine by students from all walks of life, Central States College of Health Sciences is an Applicant for Accreditation (1998) by the Education Commission for Integrative Health (ECIH), the independent, non-profit accrediting agency for educational programs in Integrative health. The College expects to attain Candidate for Accreditation status by 1999, with full Accreditation within three years.
